How VGG empowers graduates through its Virtual Internship programme

More than 1,000 budding talents across the globe are currently improving their tech skills through the Venture Garden Group (VGG) virtual internship programme.

One of VGG’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the programme is geared towards achieving Goal 4 of the global Sustainable Development Goals — Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all -by equipping graduates in any field with the relevant IT skills to plug the resourcing gaps in the global tech space.

VGG is a holding company for leading fintech entities that provide innovative, data-driven technology solutions addressing reconciliation and payment inefficiencies in Africa.

To facilitate the programme, the company dedicated resources to refine and equip talents across the globe with cutting-edge skills in Frontend- Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) JavaScript for scripting languages, and Reach; General-purpose programming language (JAVA); User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX Designs) amongst others.

The remote internship programme, which commenced in January 2020, is set to run for 12 weeks comprising of a seven weeks intense training/coaching stretch and five weeks project execution phase including a virtual coding challenge to evaluate their acquired skills. The programme is conducted remotely to give applicants the opportunity to carry on with their daily activities while developing a tech skill.

Application into the programme is not restricted to only Nigerians as the programme currently boasts of interns from all the continents in the world. This is done via a link, directing all participants to join the e-learning platform after which they are segmented into groups peculiar to their areas of interest.

Successful candidates at the end of the programme will be awarded a certificate of participation, while the top five candidates from the coding challenge will be open to resident internship and/or employment opportunities in Venture Garden Group, its affiliate companies or other tech companies. With the programme, VGG seeks to help the interns develop relevant cutting-edge IT skills beyond the scope of the conventional school’s curriculum.
